Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will I really be asleep as if I was in the hospital?
A: No, when you are completely sedated it is called General Anesthesia and an Anesthesiologist or Nurse Anesthetist would need to monitor for safety reasons. We only do Conscious Sedation, which means you probably will get relaxed enough to sleep, but we can always wake you
Q: Will I remember anything?
A: That is the beauty of using this medication. It will remove most of the patients’ anxiety and the patient will have little to no memory of the procedure.
Q: What kind of dental treatments can I have with Sedation Dentistry?
A: Almost any dental treatment can be accomplished with Sedation Dentistry, including root canals, crowns, fillings, implants, cosmetic treatment, even just getting your teeth cleaned.
Q: Is Sedation Dentistry safe?
A: Sedation Dentistry protocols have been used for over 30 years. Dr McRae has had extra training in New York and feels that for some patients it is actually safer than traditional dental practices.
Q: Will my dental insurance cover the cost of Sedation
A: Most insurance companies do cover sedation; but we will review your coverage with each individual to determine possible insurance benefits.
Q: My child is supposed to go to the hospital for extensive dental work. Can this be done on children?
A: Yes, but when it comes to children, we hire a Nurse Anesthetist to administer the medications and check vitals. A child’s ability to breathe differs from an adult. At McRae Dental, we are extra safe when it comes to children.
The benefits are that there is usually a large cost reduction and it can be a more comfortable environment for most children, compared to the hospital.
